I am a professional historian with over three decades of expertise in intelligence, military and diplomatic history. In 1998, I joined Sir Lawrence Freedman as his chief researcher on the Official History of the Falklands Campaign and three years later moved to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office as one of their resident historians. In 2006, I was engaged as the lead researcher with the late Professor Keith Jeffery on the Authorised History of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). After that book was published in 2010, for the next fifteen years I worked on the history of intelligence operations for the Cabinet Office.
